PERSONALITY
Beyond is, simply, Beyond.
He is a true deviant, often found both speaking with tongue in cheek and sarcastically, to the point where even those who are to closely familiar him would have to pay close attention (and even then it would be difficult) to distinguish fact from fiction in Beyond's words. Beyond enjoys leading others in circles, confusing them with both words and actions as he constantly speaks in contradictions, confirming something in one sentence and denying it in the next.
Beyond is also very childish and teasing, something he even admits himself. Despite his remarkable intelligence, Beyond is mostly driven by his emotions, and may be described as 'impulsive' or as one 'prone to violence'. However, he does not let this could his better judgment.
Like the rest of the Wammy's kids, Beyond has some quirks, one of them being his obsession over L, where he has even gone as far as to completely emulate the aforementioned in everything, including his speech and personality.
Despite popular belief, Beyond does not enjoy spilling the blood of others, nor does care about it, really. His Shinigami Eyes having long ago engraved the fact that everyone is dying from the day they are born, making him indifferent about his murders, since he believes he is doing nothing wrong by killing those who were fated to die anyways.

APPEARANCE
Beyond is just your regular guy.
...With satanic red eyes.
He stands at the unimpressive height of 170cm (5'7") and weights 59kg (110lbs). His skin is an almost sickly pale, due to the fact that he tends to stay away from the sun-light as much as he can, and he has messy, dark brown hair that falls over his eyes in an irritating fashion (although, Beyond doesn't really mind), while his eyes, as mentioned above, are a strange scarlet hue also lacking a pupil, which seem to glow faintly in the dark.
His usual attire consists of a plain, long-sleeved white shirt, and faded blue jeans. If necessary, Beyond can also be seen shuffling walking around in a pair of beat-up white sneakers (that have obviously seen better days), and strangely enough, never with a pair of socks. However, this does not mean that, if the situation calls for it, Beyond will not don a more appropriate outfit.

HISTORY
For as long as Beyond can remember, he has possessed these eyes; eyes that allowed him to see the name and life span of everyone around him.
From a very young age, Beyond had always been curious as to why this was, even believing it to be something that everyone possessed, a notion that he quickly forgot as soon as his mother, confused and frustrated by his talk of 'letters and numbers', told him to stop playing pretend. However, he did not know what these numbers actually meant until the age of five, when his father was assaulted and killed by a small group of thugs for his wallet; which held a grand total of $12.75. Beyond's mother, unfortunately, also met a similar fate a few years later, when on her way to work she was hit by a drunk driver.
It was a total loss.
From this point onwards, Beyond spent the next two years of his life moving from orphanage to orphanage, until, one day, Beyond was taken to 'Wammy's House' a 'special' orphanage designed to house gifted orphans. Beyond Birthday ceased to be, in his place, B was born, B was for Backup, and for the second child.
During the next following years of his life, Beyond discovered the truth behind this so-called 'heaven'. They gathered gifted children, yes. But not merely to 'save them' from the streets; oh no siree. They gathered them for L, and L was Beyond's new goal, just like he was A's, and every other child in the orphanage. L was the goal, and Beyond wouldn't be able to give up until he became L's equal.
...Unfortunately, the same could not be said for poor, poor A. Beyond had watched A's numbers count down to zero with every single passing day, and he knew better than anyone else what this meant. However, how was what had caught Beyond's interest, and so he got closer; just to see.
Big mistake.
They had become acquaintances, friends even (which was a ridiculous notion, Beyond said. Who in their right state of mind would become friends with somebody who is dead?), and so, when A's numbers finally reached zero, they took their own life and Beyond's goal changed.
A couldn't become L, and A was supposed to come before L. So if A could not become L's equal, then B would simply have to take off where A left off, and surpass L.
And thus, Beyond Birthday left Wammy's House without a trace. B would simply have to surpass L by creating the case that L would never solve.

FAKE MEMORIES
If approached with the subject, Beyond will simply crack a smile (obviously fake, as he doesn't even make an effort to make it reach his eyes) and say that he doesn't remember his parents at all and that most of his past before moving into his apartment is all a blur.
Obviously, this is a lie.
Beyond was born on one February 29th to a highly religious couple with the surname of 'Birthday' (for Beyond can't really be bothered to remember their names). Needless to say, the fact that their only child possessed a set of bright, scarlet eyes (a contrast to their dull, brown ones) did not sit well with them, for these eyes could only be from the devil himself.
This, of course, resulted in Beyond spending the first seven years of his life locked in his room, coming out only when necessary (for personal hygiene and to eat, and even of that he was deprived of some times), for his parents knew it would certainly be a scandal if they, ones who claimed to be devoted to their beliefs, were discovered to be harboring a hell-spawn. And so, Beyond Birthday became that single black spot in his parents 'perfect' life as they mourned with their friends and companions about that alleged son they 'lost at childbirth'.
However, on one particular day, his mother forced him into a pair of dirty jeans and shirt, dragged him over to the car where his father was waiting, and drove, until there was no sign of human sight and quite literally kicked him out of the car, leaving Beyond to fend off by himself for a total of three days until he, unfortunately (or fortunately) passed out from exhaustion.
Next time Beyond woke up, he found himself surrounded by wash-white walls and the smell of disinfectant. Apparently, one of the workers at St. Dipratino's had found him and taken him to the Hospital in Maior where he was questioned about every single detail; who he was, where his parents were, what happened... Everything and anything, and Beyond found himself lying through his teeth. He preferred to spend the rest of his life in an orphanage than to go back, and so he did; not because they had believed every single word that he said, oh no siree.
But rather, because, unknown to him until several years later, the same day his parents had abandoned him, a drunk driver had crashed into them, sending the car spiraling out of control and down the hill. They died.
Beyond's time inside of St. Dipratino's Orphanage was mostly spend in a secluded corner inside of its library, where he would read book after book, subject after subject, and none dared to approach him (for some were scared by his appearance, others jealous of his intellect); he preferred it no other way. This was how he, more of less, spent his next eleven years; rising to the top academically without the aid of any companions until he finally turned eighteen and was free to go as he pleased.
He quickly moved out of the orphanage, landing a job as a cashier in HallMart, renting an apartment in Etalon, which he shares with his roommate and fellow university student, Yagami Sayu.
Up to this date, Beyond Birthday still thanks that drunk driver.
He will never admit any of this, though.
